Proud to be His
There was a time when I was young when I was getting bullied at school. A group of the older children would make a semi circle round me, up against a wall and call me ‘Nappy’. This was because my surname at the time sounded a bit like that. It was really upsetting me and one day I went home and told my Mum.
She told me that when my Dad and Grandfather were young, children used to call them ‘Nappy’ too so I could be proud of it as I own the same family name as they do.
That really helped me and made me feel special. After that I went back to school with my attitude completely changed and as soon as the other children saw it didn’t bother me anymore they stopped trying to bully me.
As Christians we are God’s children so we should be proud to own His name, be in His family and be associated with Him. The word Christian means ‘Little Christ’.
Battles
We will go through spiritual battles and tough times sometimes but remember, Jesus has already won the final victory and He gives us His Holy Spirit to live inside us to help us stand up and fight those battles.
God asks us to live our lives for Him and to do what He has called us to do and He promises to be with us and give us the strength we need.
Read King David’s words in 1 Chronicles 28 verse 20 as he encourages his son Solomon.
Show Jesus in your life
Even if people start by picking on us for our faith, if they see Jesus in our lives they will probably end up asking us questions about how differently we live our lives and about why.
So how can people see Jesus in your life?
It’s when you are doing what He asks you to; when you are often talking and listening to Him; when the Holy Spirit is growing His special fruit in you, making you more like Jesus day by day; when you are showing Jesus’ love by being kind and thoughtful; when you are forgiving; when you put Jesus first and honour Him in your life. There’s lots of ways you can tell people that you belong to Jesus – you can tell them by showing them!
Not ashamed
The Bible encourages us not to be ashamed to tell people about Jesus with our words too.
In Mark 8 v 38 Jesus says, ‘If anyone is ashamed of me and my teaching, then I will be ashamed of him.’
In Romans 1 v 16 Paul writes, ‘I am proud of the Good News. It is the power God uses to save everyone who believes…’
In 2 Timothy 1 v 8 Paul writes to Timothy and says, ‘So do not be ashamed to tell people about our Lord Jesus.’
Remember though - it is important for our lives to match up with what we are saying!
Explain the Hope You Have
1 Peter 3 verses 15 – 17 give some guidelines on how we tell people and how we should live our lives. It’s worth reading!
Be Brave and Daring!
So, if you are a Christian, go ahead, be brave and daring in living your life for Jesus and standing up in confidence for your faith in Him, not being ashamed that you are a follower of Jesus!
I’d love to hear of any ways you’ve been brave and daring in living for Jesus or sharing your faith with your friends.
