Compassionate
Intro
The chorus of ‘What is your God like?’ a great song on Dave’s new CD is from Psalm 145:8,9 “He is gracious, compassionate, slow to anger, rich in love, always good to all, compassionate to all that he has made”
God is compassionate. He has compassion for us. That means he feels distress and pity for us when we are going through difficult times and he gets alongside us.
Jesus
When God became a man, Jesus, he went through the same sort of sufferings and temptations as we do so he understands how we are feeling. He experienced real human thoughts and feelings and we can be real and truthful with him about our feelings and what we are going through as we talk to him.
If you’re going through something really hard and you’re upset and confused, you know how good it is when someone comes and sits next to you and tells you they understand exactly how you are feeling because they’ve been through the same thing and that they care. You feel relieved that you’re not alone and you can share it all with them, knowing they understand and can help you. Well that’s what God is like (only better!) when he shows us his compassion.
Creative Prayer
If you’re not going through difficult times right now, rejoice and be thankful and find someone who is finding things hard so you can pray for them, get alongside them and encourage them.
Ephesians 4 verse 32 tells us we should, ‘Be kind and compassionate to one another…’
