Play Daddy I Need You

On the Brave and Daring CD sleeve Dave writes, “At bedtime one day, when Esther was 3, she came into the room in which I was talking to Timothy. She looked straight into my eyes and said, Daddy I need you’. Her father’s heart melted! How much more does Father God’s heart melt when, as His children, we acknowledge our need of Him.”

Abba

The last verse of the ‘Daddy I Need You’ song says ‘Abba, Father, Daddy’.

Abba means Daddy – it is used for a really close relationship with Father God. Abba, Father is what Jesus called God and the Holy Spirit in our hearts calls out ‘Abba, Father’. If we are Christians we are God’s sons so we can call Him Abba, Daddy too!

We need God!

Psalm 42 v 1 says, ‘A deer thirsts for a stream of water. In the same way, I thirst for you, God.’

That’s what the deer feels like; panting, short of breath, longing for a drink from a stream that can quench its thirst, refresh it and bring it a new strength and make it feel really alive again. Its life depends on water.

And that’s just how our soul, the real us, deep down inside, so much wants and needs to be close to God.

We need to have a really close relationship with God, feel close enough to Him as if we could sit on His knee and look into His face and tell Him we love Him too!

We need God’s help and peace to live in this world that sometimes scares us.

We need His Holy Spirit to give us the power to live how God wants us to live and to do the things He has planned for us to do.

We need Him to grow in us those fruits of the Spirit mentioned in Galatians 5 v 22.

We need God to give us wisdom and guidance when we don’t know what to do or say.

Email challenge

There are so many more reasons why we need God - too many to list here!

Make a list of all the things we need or need to know.

How many of those things can come from God, either straight from Him or in a round about way?

Walking away and coming back

The song also says ‘When I walk away Lord, I cannot see your face,’

Have you wandered away from God a little or a lot?

Is your relationship with God not as good as it was before?

Do you want to get back to that closeness with God?

It’s so easy to do. Just say sorry, turn around and stick close to God. Some ways to do that are…

Talking to God, listening to God, reading the Bible or Bible notes, meeting with, praying with and talking to other Christians, worshipping God etc.

Action prayer

You might like to act that out in your room. Walk one way, write a sorry prayer and leave it there, then turn and walk the opposite way and write a praise prayer thanking God and telling Him how close you want to be to Him and how much you love Him.

Testimony

A few years ago I was praying while I was walking across the playground after taking my youngest daughter to school. I was feeling like something was missing, like I was all dried up, telling God I was so sorry for not involving Him in my life as much as I wanted to and doing things my own way.  God stopped me right there and then and it was as if He put His arms round my shoulders and pointed out a beautiful white rose bush and said ’I made that for you’. God had accepted me straight back with love!

Our Father God is always looking on us with love in His eyes, waiting for us to say ‘Daddy I Need You’!
