Father
Intro
There are lots of songs, taken from the Bible, about God being our Father God. In the Lord’s prayer we pray, ‘Our Father in Heaven’
If we are his children, then he is our heavenly Father. That makes us family and Jesus is our older brother! How cool is that!
Girls!
Some versions of the Bible call us ‘sons’ rather than ‘children’ but it still means the girls as well as the boys. It says ‘sons’ because in Bible times it was only the sons who inherited what their father owned. I am quite happy to be called a ‘son’ if that’s what it means – I don’t want to miss out on all the good things God has promised me. Do you?
So, what sort of father is he?
Well, God is so much better than any earthly father could ever be because he is the perfect Father.
- God gives good gifts to us - Matthew 7:11
- God accepts us as we are – Romans 15:7
- God always loves us – Jeremiah 31:3
- God protects us – Psalm 32:7
- God provides for us – 1Timothy 6:17
- God disciplines us fairly because he wants the best for us – Hebrews 12:5 - 6
- We can talk to God about absolutely anything. He is never too busy to listen to us and spend time with us – Ephesians 2:18
