Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a Donkey on Palm Sunday.
John 12v12–15
Sheep are mentioned throughout the bible—form Genesis to Revelation—and Jesus
talked about them a lot in stories like the parable of the lost sheep.
Matthew 18v10–14
You may have sung that the elephant was one of the animals that went in “Two by
Two” but the bible doesn't mention that!
When Jesus was talking about when he will return again he used the example of how a shepherd
separated the goats from another animal.
Matthew 25v31–46
Cats are popular pets, but people didn't really have pets in bible times, so cats don't get a mention.
Dogs do appear in the bible, but they weren't “Man's best friend.” Dogs are
seen as unpleasant animals that you wouldn't want around you.
Matthew 15v21–28
Rabbits are found all over the place, but not in the bible!
Deer were seen as beautiful and graceful animals in the bible. A Deer is used as an example in
the beautiful Psalm 42.
The Fox is mentioned on only a few occasions, but Samson did round up 300 of them. When a
man said he would follow Jesus anywhere, Jesus told him that “Foxes have holes... but the Son
of man has nowhere to lay his head.”
Matthew 8v18–21
Rats do not get a mention anywhere in the bible.
They knew then, as we know now, that you don't want to bump into a bear. Proverbs compares
a meeting with a bear and a foolish person. Proverbs 17v12
Bulls were very valuable to the Israelites, they often offered them as a sacrifice to God when they
confessed their sins.
Tigers do not live in the Bible lands so they were not written about.
Lions were around in bible times, they were a symbol of great power and strength. Jesus
is described as “The Lion of the Tribe of Judah” in the book of Revelation. Revelation 5v5
Horses are in the bible from start to finish. They were a very important part of an army, pulling
the chariots and forming the cavalry. Solomon had 12,000 horses in his army. 1Kings 10v16
The Animals went in two by two, but the bible never mentions the Kangaroo!
